The Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Yemen – Hans Grundberg recently visited Kuwait, where he met Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and Kuwaiti Minister for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah.

    Mr. Grundberg stressed the importance of regional and international consensus on the Yemeni situation in making progress and reaching a settlement through negotiation and peaceful dialogue.

      The Special Envoy thanked Kuwait for being such a solid partner in UN’s efforts to bring peace to Yemen.

     Mr. Grundberg said, “Kuwait’s commitment to promoting peaceful political dialogue is vital in helping to achieve sustainable peace in Yemen,”.

    Mr. Grundberg briefed Kuwaiti Prime Minister and Kuwaiti Minister for Foreign Affairs on his most recent meetings with Yemenis and regionalists and discussed with them the latest developments in Yemen.

       He expressed concern at the military operations in Yemen, especially in Marib and around Hodeidah, and stressed the urgent need to de-escalate.

         He also stressed the importance of adopting a comprehensive and inclusive approach to address political, security and economic issues that concern all Yemenis.

      UN envoy met Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdul Latif Al-Zayani in Dubai, UAE on Saturday.

     According to Bahrain news Agency: “Al-Zayani discussed with the envoy the evolving situation in Yemen at the military, economic and humanitarian levels, along with UN’s efforts to military de-escalation and achieving a political settlement to the conflict.”

    The agency added, “During the meeting, they stressed the need to support UN’s efforts aimed at achieving a negotiated solution to the conflict, peacemaking and alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people.”

     UN envoy visited the UAE, Iran, and Oman, as well as Aden, Taiz, Al-Turbah and Mocha, over the past two weeks before submitting his report to the Security Council in a closed meeting last Thursday.

      On his part, UN envoy highly commended and appreciated the role of Kuwait and its contributions in supporting its brothers in Yemen, and its effort to achieve security and stabilization over its territory and alleviate the human suffering of its people.
