  • UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) releases another US$7 million to UNICEF to provide assistance to vulnerable communities affected by food insecurity in Yemen

Khabar Khair (Only Good News)

The United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) has released US$ 7 million to UNICEF to provide coordinated multisectoral assistance to vulnerable communities including children and persons with disabilities impacted by food insecurity in the governorates of Hajjah, Hodeidah and Taiz.

Over six months, this assistance will target 287,000 vulnerable people, including over 170,000 children and more than 30,000 persons with disability, with timely and high-impact interventions in health, nutrition, water and sanitation, and child protection in areas rated as IPC4 and IPC5 in the IPC (Integrated Phase Classification) report released earlier this year.

“The needs of children in Yemen remain huge. With this contribution, UNICEF will be able to provide lifesaving assistance for children and their families by delivering nutrition, water, hygiene, and sanitation as well as child protection services”, says Philippe Duamelle, UNICEF Representative to Yemen. “We thank the UN-CERF for this important support to our humanitarian response activities in Yemen”, he adds.

The humanitarian crisis in Yemen remains one of the worst in the world. Over seven years of conflict and severe economic decline exacerbating needs in all sectors and the suffering of children and their families.
