Japan announced the provision of an additional grant of $130 million to the World Food Program (WFP) to support the groups most affected by the food insecurity crisis in 37 countries around the world. $6 million of the grant was allocated to support those in need in Yemen.

The WFP expressed its gratitude for this humanitarian assistance by Japan, which is one of the largest donors to the program. “We are most grateful to the Government of Japan for these generous contributions to help many of the most in need, who have been pushed to the brink in 37 countries around the world,” he said.

However, Yemen has suffered from the scourge of conflict for more than seven years. This has caused an economic crisis that has increased the rates of poverty, unemployment and food insecurity.
