  • Qatar Red Crescent Launches A Program That Supports Community Health In Yemen With A Budget Of Nearly One Million Dollars

Khabar Khair (Only Good News) – Sarah Al-Muhalwi

In continuation of the efforts of the Qatar Red Crescent to provide humanitarian and relief services in various regions of Yemen, the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has launched a new project to support 10 primary health care centres and treat malnutrition in Yemen. Its cost is $988,000, and it runs until the end of the year.

It is noteworthy that the 2019 report of the United Nations Humanitarian Needs Document indicates that only 51% of health facilities in Yemen are fully functional, and therefore access to health care is very limited. The report indicated that deaths in cases of famine are caused by diseases related to weak immunity in the body, and therefore many children, mothers and malnourished patients in famine-prone areas may not be able to access health care.

For this reason, the Qatar Red Crescent is always keen to place the health sector at the top of its priorities, and to provide centres and hospitals with the most important basic needs. The project to support 10 health centres comes as a contribution to raising the capabilities of health and food security to withstand the current crisis, by providing primary health care services, combating malnutrition, maintaining buildings and equipment, and spreading health awareness.
