In mid-November, Humanitarian Access opened three water wells in the governorates of Hadhramout and Shabwa, benefiting 2,298 people. Two of wells are in the areas of Baqoura and Al-Hamra in Hajar District, Hadhramout. Another is in Al-Salamah, Shabwa. The wells were funded by “Nama Charity”, the State of Kuwait.

This vital project aims to provide easy access to clean water to the people of the targeted areas. It also aims to alleviate their suffering of fetching water from far places, which has extended for many years.

The project included drilling the three wells, operating them with a solar power system, extending the network to the beneficiary areas, and rehabilitating and building water storage tanks. The project was accomplished with great efforts, which saved the people from buying water at high prices.

Yemen is described as one of the poorest water countries in the world. Providing drinking water today remains one of the biggest challenges facing the population. Recent international estimates indicate that 18,000,000 Yemenis lack access to safe drinking water.
