Khabar Khair (Only Good News)

Under the slogan “Our Strength… Our Struggle… Our Efforts”, the work of the fifth Women’s Summit was launched yesterday in Aden Governorate. It was organized by “Wogod for Human Security” Foundation, in partnership with a number of international supporters and with the wide participation of blocs, alliances, networks, initiatives, feminist organizations, local peace mediators, and social, academic and political personalities of various affiliations, sects, and geographical diversity.

This summit is held for the fifth time in a row. It aims to strengthen women’s movement and its role within the framework of national collective action.

At the opening ceremony, the President of Wogod for Human Security Foundation and the coordinator of the Women’s Summit, Maha Awad, delivered a welcoming speech. In her speech, she reviewed the most important goals of the Women’s Summit, which provides the opportunity for women to contribute to the development of their vision of peace and support their own visions, ideas and viewpoints related to the peace process and the transitional period. Awad emphasized that organized feminist action is the basis of the strength of the feminist movement’s struggle and efforts, and that the feminist summit is a free platform for discussing feminist issues.

In addition, Rasha Jawhar, the representative of Peace Path Initiative Organization delivered a speech in which she urged the importance of coming up with recommendations that develop strategies that serve women’s issues and enhance their role in the framework of collective action.

Discussion sessions were also held. They dealt with a number of topics, including dialogue on mediation and truce efforts, diplomatic dialogue, the results of the women’s summit outcomes, in addition to a dialogue with the Consultation and Reconciliation Committee.

The sessions included a review of some success stories of women in the feminist movement. The summit came out with some recommendations and proposals that promote and support the active feminist movement within the framework of the participatory work approach.
