Last Wednesday, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) collaborated with the Soul Organization for Development in Mukalla to launch the distribution of security and safety tools and office furniture. The items were provided to the Ministry of Education offices under the training program called the “National Guide to Security and Safety” in six districts of the coast and valley of Hadhramout.

The program was funded by the European Union and aimed to train 240 teachers and staff distributed over 12 training groups. The training course focused on how to deal with hazards and disasters before, during, and after their occurrence, and the project aims to create secure educational environments for students.

During the inauguration ceremony, Amin Baabad, Director General of the Office of the Ministry of Education in the coast of Hadhramout, called on the trainees to disseminate their newfound knowledge and skills to all the administrative staff in the schools.

Osama Makarem, Coordinator of the Soul Organization for Development in Hadhramout, explained that the project’s target districts were Mukalla, Seiyun, Ghail Bawazir, Al-Shihr, Tarim, and Al-Qattan. In addition to training, the initiative distributed security and safety tools and office furniture to the teachers and offices in those directorates.

Overall, the UNDP-implemented project seeks to strengthen local governance in the recovery of the education sector and enhance institutional and economic resilience in Yemen.
